The Ariège Golf Club is owned by the Ariège Department. It is the Ariège’s only golf course, created in 1986. The Ecogolf project was launched in January 2008, based on a local development for an already existing golf course. In spring 2012 the 3 environmental aspects of the programme were launched, with an innovative and citizen golf course open to everyone. The PNR qualified and certified the process. October 2013 marked the completion of the Ecogolf. 6 months later, in April 2014, the Ecogolf Ariège-Pyrénées was finally inaugurated.
The Ecogolf, an eco-responsible golf course certified by the Ariégeois Pyrenees Natural Park, is a model for sustainable and ecological management in France. The Ecogolf Ariège-Pyrénées and its courses (3 golf courses + open air walk open to everyone) covers a 75 hectare estate. In the wooded areas, as well as areas used for playing, sustainable maintenance is subject to a unique agreement in France between the Ariégeois Pyrenees Natural Park and the French Golf Federation. Here the gardeners only water the course with rainwater collected in artificial ponds, use as little fertiliser as possible, treat turf disease respecting the ecosystem and transparently looking for the best solutions. The Ecogolf promises to guarantee natural resources, health and golfing conditions on a par with the best courses.
